What happens if you steal

Instead, this would be a questionable shopping practice that is frowned upon by business owners. Another situation would be when someone conceals a product with the intent to steal, but loses confidence, and puts the item back before exiting the store. Although they may have had intent to steal, the act of stealing did not occur. Employees have to be very careful when approaching a suspected shoplifter because wrongfully accusing someone of a crime can be an awkward encounter for the employee and the individual.

When you are checking out of a store be sure to check the cart both in and under to make sure all items have been put on the counter for purchase.

Even if you successfully shoplift and exit the store without being caught, you can still be arrested. When there is missing inventory or if something distinctive is gone from the shelves, businesses may review security footage. When they find the clip of footage showing when the theft took place they will call it into the authorities. More often businesses are leveraging the power of social media to nab shoplifters.

Posting the video or image of a shoplifter to social media accounts has lead to a number of convictions. If you were convicted of felony burglary under shoplifting circumstances, state law allows you to apply for a re-sentencing to a shoplifting misdemeanor. This can reduce the amount of time left to serve, or if you have already completed your sentence, it can remove the felony from your criminal record. Being accused of shoplifting can be an embarrassing and anxious ordeal.

The good news is you have defenses available that can work to get charges reduced or dropped entirely. Perhaps it was a case of mistaken identity, or the police violated your Fourth Amendment rights while searching you? They might steal as a way to deal with the situation. But stealing won't fix what's missing. Other kids might have personal problems that lead them to steal. They may feel jealous of what others have. They may feel unloved and neglected.

Or they may be upset that their parents are arguing or getting divorced. But stealing won't solve these problems. Other kids don't care about rules. They steal because they think they can get away with it. They may believe they deserve to have the stolen goods. But kids need to learn respect rules and the rights of other people. Stealing causes a whole bunch of problems.

Suppose a kid sees a pen in a store and decides to take it. If she gets caught, the store owner might say she's not allowed in the store again. The owner might tell her parents.

She may have to give money to pay for the pen and the police could be called because stealing including shoplifting is a crime. She could be arrested, especially if she has stolen before, and that could lead to more problems.

She may have to go to court and may have some sort of punishment, like having to do work in the community to make up for what she has done. How does stealing make someone feel? Whoever is stealing is probably nervous during the act itself. If a kid gets away with it, he may be relieved at first. Later, he feels lousy because he knows what he did was wrong.

He also might be afraid that someone will discover his secret, and he'll want to deny it. But lying will only make matters worse. Kids who gets caught might be really embarrassed. Then they may be ashamed because they let their family down.

They may feel like nobody trusts them anymore. They might feel stupid and worried. What if they go to jail? What if their favorite teacher finds out? What if they loses their friends? But even when kids don't feel these things, stealing is still wrong.
